By analysing high-resolution images, Shark ID AI creates a unique biometric signature for each shark, allowing researchers to track migrations, study behaviour, and monitor habitats over time — delivering insights that guide protection of these vital ocean predators.

Shark ID AI makes individual, non-invasive identification possible at scale — something previously impractical with manual photo-matching or reliance on tags. It standardises recognition across species and regions, returning rapid, reproducible matches with explicit confidence scores and verifiable image evidence.

HOW DOES SHARK ID AI WORK?

Shark ID AI transforms shark identification into a streamlined, data-driven process. It begins when a user uploads a clear photograph of a shark through our web platform. Using advanced artificial intelligence, the system analyses the image to determine the species and extract key biometric features, including fin shape, natural markings, and unique pattern signatures.

These features are then compared against our growing global database of identified sharks to detect a match. If the individual has been recorded previously, its existing profile is retrieved. If not, Shark ID AI assigns a new unique identification code, establishing a baseline record for future encounters.

Each sighting is stored with essential metadata — species, location, growth over time, date, and a confidence score — creating a dynamic and continuously evolving dataset that supports long-term scientific monitoring and global marine conservation.
